Nagamangala: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar launched the 'Digi-med' (digital medicine) programme for the benefit of medical students at Adichunchanagiri, Nagamangala taluk, Mandya district, on Friday.
Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the 'Samvada', with first year MBBS students at the BGS auditorium in Adichunchanagiri, he said, "If one is illiterate in understanding the technology, he will remain illiterate forever. The medical students, who have the opportunity to learn with the latest technology, will come out not only as doctors, but as technocrats".
The Vice President said he was overwhelmed by the presence of thousands of students attending the event. There is a need to teach culture along with education for developing Vikisit Bharat by 2047, he added.
"Bharat has been growing fast with construction of four new airports and one metro every year. Construction of 14-km highways and 6-km railways a day denotes how fast we are growing. Transparent government is the new norm," the Vice President said.
He cautioned the students that dissemination is injurious to national health and youths should understand this. "The power of social media is in everyone's hands. Use your intelligence to keep the nation above all," he adviced.
He also recalled former president A P J Abdul Kalam's visit to the institute a decade ago and said that the students should follow his advice of dreaming big. Dreams should transform into thoughts and action, he said.
He said, "Deve Gowda will not only be remembered as a former PM but also 'farmer PM'. He had strived for the welfare of farmers and rural communities."
Adichunchanagiri seer Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji and Vice president's wife Sudesh Dhankar among others were also present.
