The drive to stop fish trucks from spilling nauseating fish waste water on the roads will continue, said Mangaluru Commissioner of Police Sandeep Patil on Friday.
“According to the notice issued to fish trucks owners on May 6, they should fix containers and make vehicles leak-proof within one month. The drive by the police will continue and cases will be filed against those found violating guidelines,” Patil said while responding to a call from
G R Prabhu in Bejai during the phone-in-programme organised at his office.
Yashpal from Surathkal said Antony Waste Handling Cell Limited’s vehicles were collecting waste in uncovered vehicles and spilling garbage on to the road.
Another caller Sunil Kulai complained that trucks transporting sulphur and urea were also spilling chemicals on the road in Panambur. These chemicals have proven to be dangerous in the past as two-wheeler riders skid on the slippery road, he charged.
P G Rao from Bejai complained about the discomfort being caused by concrete mixing vehicles which spill concrete mixture on the road during transportation.
“The number plate of the mixing vehicle is covered with the concrete and so it is not legible,” he pointed out.
Lokesh of Kadri drew the attention of the police to bus drivers speaking over the phone while driving.
S P Shenoy from Kottara Chowki complained about private buses that stop in the middle of the road either board or alight passengers from the bus.
Smitha from Mulki pointed out that the ‘U-turn’ at Karnad bypass was unscientific and was causing many road accidents.
Krishna from Maroli said many buses (with route number 30 B) had cut the trips to Maroli. Chandrahas from Kumpala complained that 44 route number buses had cut down trips from State Bank Circle to Kumpala.
Purushottam Chitrapura said residents on Chitrapura Temple Road faced inconveniences as customers visiting a bar and restaurant park their vehicles on the road. The barricade installed by the police on the road was removed by miscreants, he said.
The police commissioner directed the officials concerned to conduct a spot inspection and initiate appropriate action.
Krishna from Surathkal stressed the need to install lights and speed-breakers at Padil Railway Underpass. Jayashree Shenoy of Kodialguttu urged MCC to desilt the drain on MG Road as monsoon was fast approaching.
During the previous monsoon, sewage had entered houses. Rama Rao from Kottara Chowki mooted the idea of creating paid parking lots in different parts of the
city.
