Davanagere: Heavy rains that lashed the district in the wee hours of Thursday forced residents of some areas in Davangere and Jagaluru to wake up from their sleep and drain out rain water that gushed into their households.
The rain, which began at midnight on Wednesday, continued unabated until Thursday morning. Many tanks, streams which had reached maximum level due to copius rains that lashed the region over the last one week, are now overflowing.
Around 3:30 am, rainwater entered several houses in the Pisale Compound of Davanagere city. Residents who were in deep sleep were alarmed. Fire department personnel visited the area drained out rainwater from houses. Drains were overflowing, and water entered low-lying areas. Many places in the city including the onion market and Bharat Colony are fscing flood-like situation.
In Jagaluru taluk, the Jinagi stream is overflowing. The Hiremallanhole village is flooded due to the overflowing lake. As a precautionary measure, people have been relocated to a safe place. As many as 40 families have taken shelter at the care centre.
