Dr Avinash Jadhav, a MD final year student and son of former MLA Dr Umesh Jadhav, the BJP nominee for the Chincholi Assembly constituency bypoll explains what will he do for the constituency if elected in an interaction with DH. Excerpts from the interview.

Why should people elect you?

I have a special attachment with the constituency as my native place is Bedasur tanda in Chincholi taluk. The people of the segment have blessed my father twice. Jadhav senior has brought drinking water schemes, got funds sanctioned for laying roads and got houses sanctioned to the poor people under various housing schemes. The people should vote for me to complete the works envisaged by my father.

What will be your priority if elected?

Drinking water problem will be improved by bringing in funds and priority will be accorded for employment generation by pressuring the government to open the sugar factory, which was closed.

The Congress is alleging that Jadhav joined BJP after receiving money.....

Upset with the insult heaped on my father by Congress leader in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge and Social Welfare Minister Priyank Kharge, Umesh Jadhav quit the Congress, but has not fallen victim to ‘Operation lotus’. Assembly Speaker Ramesh Kumar has conducted enquiry and has given a clean chit to my father. Hence, there is no truth in their allegations.

What do you have to say about the charge that bypoll has unnecessarily been imposed?

Mallikarjun Kharge treated my father badly, when he was a Congress MLA. Despite being in Hyderabad, Priyank Kharge didn’t meet my father, who was in a hospital there, after he met with an accident. Priyank has not visited Chincholi constituency even one year after he became minister. Such developments prompted my father to resign as MLA. Umesh Jadhav, who is pro-development, couldn’t continue in the party, which did not cooperate with him.
