The Department of Public Instructions (DPI) is making all efforts to ensure that the district will be in the top five places in SSLC results for the year 2018-19. However, the authorities have decided not to overburden the students.

“The department is making all necessary efforts, by creating a healthy atmosphere for the students to pursue studies. We don’t want to create additional burden on the students,” said Deputy Director for Public Instructions (DDPI) Mamatha.

The DDPI said, a meeting with the heads of all high schools will be held to discuss about the progress and to set targets. “The Deputy Commissioner, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer and ZP members will be part of the meeting. The heads, who have managed to achieve the targets earlier, will share their strategy. Similarly, an action plan will be prepared to overcome the hurdles in achieving the target. The department has already conducted a workshop for teachers to improve their teaching skills,” she said.

The department has instructed all schools to complete the portions by December end. The revision must commence by January first week. A few schools have started special classes, she said.

“A preparatory examination will be conducted for students in February. We can get a clear picture on the progress of the students only after conducting the preparatory examinations. The students will prepare as per their performance in the examination. Individual and extra care will be taken for students,” the DDPI said.

It has to be recalled that the district has secured the 11th position in the state in 2017-2018 academic year and 21st position in 2016-17.

Out of 638 high schools in the district, 83 had obtained less than 60% results in 2017-18.

According to the officials, this time, the department is also concentrating on unaided schools as some of them failed to achieve the targets last year. The schools with poor performance were listed and were directed to take measures to improve the results.

‘Mysuru Guri Nooru’, a programme, which was jointly launched by the Education department and Zilla Panchayat in 2015, to improve SSLC results, will be implemented, if needed, Manjula said.
