Admission of students to different courses of the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU), Mysuru, will continue till October 20, Vice Chancellor Prof D Shivalingaiah has said on Thursday.
The move has been taken after the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) re-recognition of courses offered by the KSOU.
The vice chancellor said that after de-recognition of courses, there had been an alarming dip in the number of students from Udupi enrolling into the courses at KSOU. “There were 68 courses offered in 2012-13. In Udupi, the number of students had increased from 944 to 1,699 in 2013-14. Currently, however, there are only 151 students who have applied for different courses,” he said.
Shivalingaiah urged students to enrol for courses offered by them as the fee is affordable.
“The KSOU has received permission from the UGC to continue BA, BCom, Bachelor of Library and Information Sciences, MA (Kannada), MA (English), MA (Hindi), MA (Urdu), MA (History and Archeology), MA (History), MA (Economics), MA (Political Science), MA (Public Administration), MA (Sociology), MA (Journalism and Mass Communication), MCom, Master of Library and Information Science, and MSc courses,” he explained.
“The study materials and identity cards will be offered at regional centres after the payment of fees. The admission for MBA and BEd will be conducted in January 2019,” said the vice chancellor.
He said the students who have completed their graduation and post graduation courses will be handed their certificates shortly.
