Mumbai: The Ascent of Mt. Meru, a film based on the Pune-based adventure and mountaineering club Giripremi to Mt Meru, has been selected to several international film festivals including the Torello Mountain Film Festival in Spain.

The film director, Ronak Singh and the expedition leader, Umesh Zirpe were invited to Torello, Spain, for the screening of the film.

“It is a matter of great pride for all mountaineers and Indians that a Marathi-language film based on a mountaineering expedition was selected out of 180 films from around the world at this international film festival,” said Zirpe after the screening.

Zirpe is also the president of Akhil Maharashtra Giryarohan Mahasangh, the apex body of mountaineers in the state.

The Torello Mountain Film Festival, which has a 41-year tradition and was held on November 20 in the town of Torello, Spain.

The festival showcases some of the finest mountaineering expedition films from around the world and The Ascent of Mt. Meru was selected to be part of this prestigious event.

The film received an enthusiastic response from all the climbers and the audience at the festival.

On 2 September, 2023, the Giripremi team became the first Indian group to climb Mt. Meru South, a 6,660 meters tall mountain - considered one of the most difficult mountains to climb.
