The special block commenced from the intervening night of Thursday and Friday and would continue till Sunday afternoon.

The suburban services in Mumbai and neighbouring Thane district were affected as services were slowed down.

The outstation trains were affected as well.

The Central Railway’s Mumbai Division is implementing a 63 hour special block for widening of Platform no 5/6 at Thane. It is also imposing another 36 hours special block for Non-interlocking (NI) works in connection with extension of platforms 10/11 for accommodating 24 coaches trains at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus.

The CR has appealed to people to refrain from travelling unless it is absolutely necessary in view of the delays and curtailment in services.

“These blocks are essential for infrastructure upgradation and long term benefits. Passengers are requested to bear with the railway administration for the inconvenience caused,” a CR spokesperson said.

During the two simultaneous blocks 930 suburban services will be cancelled—161 services on Friday, 534 services on Saturday and 235 services on Sunday.

Besides, 444 suburban services will be short-terminated—7 services on Friday, 306 services on Saturday and 131 services on Sunday.

Another 446 suburban services will short-originate —307 services (Saturday) and 139 services (Sunday).
