Dr Brenden Ferrao, who is a resident in the Malad suburbs, asked his sister to order ice-cream online. While he was eating the butterscotch ice cream, he found a finger in it. Ferrao said that since he is a doctor, he knows the human body parts well and figured out that the piece of flesh that he found was of a thumb.

The man put forward his complaint with the ice cream company, Yummo through Instagram. But when he did not get a proper response from the company, he put the piece of flesh in an ice bag and took it to Malad police station.

While the police launched investigations, the samples of the finger and the ice-cream was sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory. The Food and Drugs Administration too stepped in.

Ferrao said he sensed something wrong on his tongue. “When I took a closer look, I found a human finger inside it,” he said.

Upon filing the complaint, the ice cream company responded in a statement and said that the incident will be taken seriously.

"We received a customer complaint stating that a foreign object was found in one of our products ordered via a delivery partner. Product quality and safety being our highest priority we were in process to address the situation, meanwhile the matter was escalated, and an official police complaint was filed by the customer," a spokesperson of the company said.

"We are taking this incident very seriously. We have stopped manufacturing at this third-party manufacturing facility. We have isolated the said product at the facility, our warehouses and in process to do the same at the market level. We are a law-abiding company and shall fully co-operate and support the authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly," the spokesperson added.

The police is probing it through various angles - accident or murder, the role of the delivery app, delivery boy and so on.

Further statements are being recorded in the case.
