Trinamool Congress on Sunday said it wanted the right forum of Parliament to investigate the allegations against its MP Mahua Moitra and the party will then take an "appropriate" decision.

Derek O'Brien, Trinamool Rajya Sabha floor leader, said Moitra was asked by the party leadership to clarify her position regarding the 'cash for query' allegations levelled against her and she has already apprised them about it.

However, he said, the party felt that the matter be investigated by the "right forum of Parliament" as the issue has to do with an elected MP.

"Since the matter has to do with an elected MP, her rights and privileges, let the matter be investigated by the right forum of Parliament- after which the party leadership will take an appropriate decision," he said.

The party has not come out in defence of Mahua after her former partner Jai Anant Dehadrai had approached the CBI seeking an investigation after accusing her of taking cash and gifts to pose queries against Adani Group. BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has approached Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, who referred the matter to the Ethics Committee of Lok Sabha.

The BJP has claimed that the Trinamool Congress's silence on Mahua meant that they admitted her wrongdoings.
