Paytm CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma is facing heat on social media in connection with his post on late business tycoon Ratan Tata.
Veteran industrialist Ratan Tata died at a Mumbai hospital late on Wednesday night. The chairman emeritus of the Tata group was 86. As soon as the news broke out, tributes started to pour in for Tata with people from all walks of life offering their condolences.
One among them was Vijay Shekhar Sharma's post which now remains deleted.
As per a screenshot posted on social media platform X, here is what Sharma wrote: "A legend who will inspire every generation. Entrepreneurs of the next generation will miss interacting with the most humble businessman of India."
After he saluted Ratan Tata he wrote, "Ok Tata Bye Bye" in his valediction, the phrase that got him under severe scrutiny by netizens.
While some users in the comment section understood the humour behind the phrase, most criticised the CEO for his wrong choice of words.
However, soon after, Sharma issued a revised statement.
"RNT for me was the most humbling business leader of India. Future generations of business leaders will miss his generous interactions and kindness. Salutes Sir. You will live in our hearts forever," it read.
Despite this, social media users who had taken screenshots of his previous post started sharing them in the comment section of the new post and mocking the CEO.
"Uninstall Paytm for lifetime..Ok Tata Bye Bye ..," wrote one user, while another said: " What does Vijay Shekhar Sharma tell common sense? Ok Tata Bye Bye 😭"
