Police in Kasaragod have registered a case regarding the disappearance of six people, including three children, of a family from the district.

One of the missing persons, Sawad, informed a friend in Kasaragod that he and his family are at Hadhramaut in Yemen and were pursuing religious studies. The complainant, Sawad’s father-in-law A Abdul Hameed, said in his statement that another family of five members from the district was also missing.

Hameed said in his petition that his daughter Nazira, her husband Sawad, their three children and Sawad’s second wife Rehanat had gone missing from Dubai, since June 15. Sawad, a native of Mogral in the district, runs a cell phone store in Dubai. Another family from Anangoor in the district – Ansar, his wife Zeenat and their three children – is also learnt to be missing but the police are yet to register a case regarding their disappearance.

Amid speculations over the circumstances surrounding their disappearance, Sawad has confirmed to a friend in Kasaragod, in a phone conversation, that he and his family were stationed in Yemen. Sawad’s relatives told television channels on Wednesday that he had informed them about shifting to Yemen while the family was in Dubai.

“It’s not clear why there are conflicting versions of the family’s whereabouts. An FIR has been registered based on the complainant’s statement. It’s likely that the two families are acquainted but we haven’t registered a case regarding the second family’s disappearance,” an official in the Kasaragod Town Police Station told DH.
