R-Day: Mamata urges people to protect the Constitution

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Republic Day urged the people to protect the Constitution and uphold the principles of secular and democratic republic along with others mentioned in the Preamble.

“ On #RepublicDay, let us pledge to protect our #Constitution and uphold the principles of sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic,
republic, justice, liberty and equality and fraternity, as enshrined in the Preamble,” tweeted Banerjee.

Republic Day was celebrated with fervour and enthusiasm in Kolkata. The march of the armed forces was presided by West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi who hoisted the national flag. The ceremony was also attended by the Chief Minister.

Various tableaux depicting the rich heritage and culture of Bengal were displayed at the parade. There were also tableaux displaying various developmental schemes of the state government.

The parade also witnessed participation from students from several parts of Bengal.
