Supreme Court will hear today petitions to cancel NEET-UG 2024

A bench led by CJI will hear the matters at 10.30 AM. Earlier, the Court directed the NTA to publish the centre-wise results. The bench is likely to conclude the matter today.

NTA files an additional affidavit in Supreme Court in the NEET-UG matter

NTA refutes petitioners’ allegation of conflict of interest on the part of IIT-M Director, who prepared the data analytics report. NTA says Director of the IIT holding JEE(Advanced) in a particular year is an ex-officio member of the NTA Governing Body.

IIT-M holds JEE(A) for 2024. However, core functions of the NTA are carried out by the Managing Committee of the NTA.

Governing Body has role only on policy matters. In any case, the said IIT-Director had nominated another professor to attend the Governing Body meetings and the nominee attended the last meeting in December 2023.

The IIT Director who made the report hasn’t attended any NTA General Body meeting after December 2022.

It is specifically argued that if the directives are allowed to be enforced, it be against the Constitution and preambular goals and have the effect of violating guaranteed rights under Articles 14, 15, 17. The argument is that the retrenchment of employees also affects their rights under 19 1 g of the Constitution.

"If the NTA had been a serious examination agency, it would have been most concerned about the integrity of the exam? What did they do? Counsel objects to NTA opening 24 hr window for additional registrations

The NTA on April 9 had opened a 24-hour window, allowing 24,000 students to additionally register for NEET.

The candidates who were not vigilant in filling the forms in time shouldn't be given additional opportunity, the counsel argued.

According to the solicitor general, 4,20,774 attempted option 2 (old NCERT edition answer) for the 'ambiguous' question while 9,28,379 attempted option 4 (new NCERT edition answer).

Supreme Court asks IIT Delhi Director to constitute an expert team to form opinion on the correct answer for a question in NEET-UG 2024 exam. This was after some students challenged the decision of the NTA to award marks for two options for the question.

NEET matter to resume on July 23

Bench order: We request the Director of IIT Delhi to constitute a team of three experts of the subject concerned. The expert team constituted by the Director is requested to formulate the opinion on the correct option and remit the opinion to the Registrar by 12 noon tomorrow. Registrar General is requested to communicate the order to the IIT Delhi Director so that expeditious steps for the preparation of the opinion can be taken.
