The onset of the northeast monsoon in Tamil Nadu combined with harsh downpours since Monday night has led to Chennai grappling with waterlogging, disrupted transport and massive flooding in low-lying areas.

Pictures shared by Kavitha Vishnu Vardhini, a resident of Velachery area in Chennai, infamous for its flooding problems, on social media handle X shows scooters, bikes and even cycles are parked in the common area on the fourth floor of her apartment complex so that they are not damaged during flooding and waterlogging.

In a follow up post on X, she also mentioned that during the monsoon last year, the ground floor parking area of the apartment was flooded and so the people have been extremely cautious this time.

A user, responding to her post, said that amid the downpour, he had parked three bikes inside his room. He also shared the images of the same in the post.

Superstar Rajinikanth’s villa in Poes Garden also faced a challenging situation due to the heavy rains that have battered the city. The palatial residence which is well known for being one of the famous landmarks of the city was inundated as incessant rains led to water entering the premises.

Chennai Corporation has announced helpline number 1913. A holiday has been declared for schools and colleges and the government requested people to check the TN Alert App for weather updates.
