Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, one of India's most prestigious research institutes, doesn't have sufficient money to pay its staffers full salary in February.
“Due to insufficient funds, all staff members and students/postdoctoral fellows of the TIFR in Centres and Field Stations will be paid 50% of the net salary for the month of February immediately. Remaining part of the salary will be paid when sufficient funds are available,” says a TIFR notice issued by its Registrar Wg Cdr George Antony on March 6.
“All deductions will be calculated on full salary and will be deposited to respective authorities as per rules,” it adds.
Phone calls to TIFR director Sandip Trivedi and Department of Atomic Energy spokesperson Ravi Shankar remain unanswered. The report would be updated if they responded. TIFR is a government-funded institute under the Department of Atomic Energy.
