A woman trainee pilot was killed when the aircraft she was flying in crashed in the fields in Telangana's Nalgonda district on Saturday.
The aircraft used for training purposes belongs to a private aviation academy operating from its base in Vijayapuri South, Nagarjuna Sagar, Andhra Pradesh just on the other side of the border with Telangana.
The woman was identified as Mahima, reportedly from Tamil Nadu. The body was mangled in the crash that occurred at Ramannagudem Tanda near Peddavura, before noon.
“Yes, the aircraft involved is ours. We are still ascertaining the details like the aircraft type, seat capacity, the reasons for the crash etc. She was alone in the craft when the incident happened,” an official of Flytech Aviation Academy told DH.
The crash is said to have occurred with a loud sound and smoke destroyed the aircraft. Locals said it appeared to be flying towards Hyderabad from Nagarjuna Sagar. Police and revenue officials examined the spot, which is just beside a high tension power line and tower. The severity could have been worse if the aircraft had hit the tower or the power lines, locals said.
Police officials said that an investigation is on to confirm the cause.
