I am in my 20s and I will be meeting my boyfriend’s parents (future in-laws) for the first time. Although I have been told that they are not too conservative, I still don’t want to take the risk of wearing something ‘wrong’. What should I wear? — Meera

You must have heard the phrase “First impression is the last impression”. I suggest you wear something Indian with the fusion of the essence of the culture and place you belong to. Wear something which is connected to the roots of the community you belong to. For example, if you are a Gujarati, you could wear a mirrorwork kurta and accessorise with oxidised jewellery. This will look trendy and elegant.

Colours are the beauty of life. I think you should wear vibrant colours pairing them with some muted tones to balance any outfit. Vibrant colours reflect on the skin and make it look younger. Avoid wearing fluorescent shades. You can even wear printed garments.

What kind of shirts should I have in my office wardrobe? I am tired of the plain whites. — Nabamita Biswas

Shirts are ideal for office wear but wearing only whites can become boring. You can wear pastel coloured shirts with minute but interesting detailing. According to the trend, you can also opt for stripes, checks and plaid shirts with formal pants. Avoid colours that are too loud and shirts with too many prints.

I am a plus-size person. What kind of formal wear should I go in for? I don’t want to hide in salwar kameez and sarees. — Shulka

The best outfit a woman can wear is confidence. I would suggest that you wear well-tailored cigarette trousers or high-waist pants. Avoid wearing flared pants and those without pleats.

I am in my 20s. How do I incorporate nautical prints in my work wardrobe? — Debanjana

Nautical prints are generally finished in blue, white and beige. You can incorporate these prints on shirts, tops with solid colour skirts and trousers. You can also opt for a printed A-line dress with a solid colour jacket. Try keeping it simple and classy. Avoid the print-over-print look. For example, if you’re wearing a printed shirt then pair it with a solid coloured bottom.
