Masks, both for your hair and face, have become a popular trend and is a way to keep you fresh and looking good. The hair and face masks that are available in retail stores can be a little expensive, but with these recipes, you need only a handful of everyday ingredients and five minutes to spare to whip up these masks and pamper yourself in the comfort of your own home.
Hair masks
Banana and honey
Blend one large banana together with one tablespoon of honey until it becomes a paste. Pour over damp hair and massage in. This hair mask can be used to repair damaged hair, so be sure to concentrate it towards the ends of your hair as they tend to be the most damaged. Rinse it out after 20 minutes.
Olive oil and yogurt
Mix together a tablespoon of olive oil and a quarter of a cup of yogurt and apply to dry hair. Massage the mixture into your scalp and roots, and throughout the length of your hair. The combination of olive oil and yogurt moisturises the hair, leaving it hydrated and soft. Wash this mask out after 30 minutes.
Coconut milk, olive oil and egg
Whisk an egg and add to it a cup of coconut milk and a tablespoon of olive oil. Apply this mixture to dry hair, focusing on the ends rather than the roots, and let it sit for 20 minutes before washing your hair. The olive oil will help hydrate your hair while the coconut milk and egg will condition it and make it shine.
Face masks
Avocado and cucumber
Chop and blend half an avocado together with one-third of cucumber to make a cool, refreshing paste. The mask will hydrate your skin, reduce the chances of acne and is beneficial for those with oily skin. This mask can be left on for up to half an hour.
Honey, yogurt and turmeric
One tablespoon of each of these ingredients makes a mask that can brighten and exfoliate the skin, and the turmeric helps with hyperpigmentation, which means this mask can even out skin tones. Leave it on for 15 minutes after application.
Honey, oats and avocado
Mash or blend half an avocado and mix in two tablespoons of oats and one tablespoon of honey. Apply to face and leave for 20 minutes. This mask can hydrate and nourish skin, prevent wrinkles and even reduces inflammation.
