India’s Tejaswin Shankar won India's first medal in athletics event at the Commonwealth games 2022, by clinching a historic bronze in the men’s high jump final.
Tejaswin nailed a landing of 2.22m to secure a podium finish to clinch the bronze medal. Tejaswin’s efforts took India’s medal tally in the CWG 2022 in Birmingham to 18.
Speaking about the achievement, Tejaswin Shankar said, “I am very happy that I won a medal & opened India's tally in athletics. I'm thankful to all those who believed in me & gave me this opportunity. I think this is India's first medal in high jump in Commonwealth Games history.”
