Last month, Apple unveiled the new line of iPhone 16 and 16 Pro models. Besides the powerful Apple A18 series processor, they come with significant upgrades in terms of photography.
The latest iPhone 16 and 16 Pro series models boast a dedicated camera control button to capture photos quickly. It can also be used to adjust the depth of field (aperture) to get the perfect portrait shot.
With Deepavali (Diwali) just around the corner, popular professional photographers Vansh Virmani, Garima Bhaskar and Joshua Karthik have shared tips on how to take the best photos with the iPhone 16 series during the festival of lights.
Here's how to get those perfect low-light photos at night
At night "start by focusing on a diya or candle, then slowly shift focus to the background to create a dramatic reveal of the scene. To take this shot to the next level, pan your camera from one subject to another while you tap on the screen to shift focus. Hold the phone steady or use a gimbal for stabilization, ensuring the camera smoothly follows the subjects, whether it's fireworks or family members," says Garima Bhaskar, Street Photographer and Visual Artist from New Delhi.
The best way to get Portrait images on the iPhone 16 series
“To get good portraits, try positioning your subject near a light source like diyas or fairy lights. Use Portrait mode to blur the background and let the soft light create a warm glow around your subject. You can even use the new Photo Styles to add depth and drama to the shot,” says Vansh Virmani, Photographer and Creative Director, New Delhi.
Video recording
"This year, the iPhone 16 Pro supports 120fps recording in 4K. What this means is that you can shoot motion in high speed and slow it down for a dramatic and pleasing effect. Try it when shooting flame, kids running around, and motion of any sort," said Joshua Karthik, Photographer and Director.
"Don’t forget to use Audio Mix. This headliner feature baked into iPhones 16 and Pro is pure magic. I’ve used it to convert everyday videos of family and friends to sound like I’ve recorded their voices in a studio; the improvement is instant and incredible. There are lots of modes to try, and this will make your Diwali videos stand out,” Karthik added.
Cinematic video recording mode
The new iPhone 16 models support Cinematic mode, which adds a dramatic effect during video recording at all light conditions. Even after the recording, the user can shift focus from one person's face to another with ease while editing on the Photos app.
"Cinematic Mode creates a shallow depth of field, allowing you to blur the background. Use this feature to isolate people or objects and make them stand out, giving a more professional, film-like appearance to your videos,” said Garima Bhaskar.
