Magnitude 6.5 aftershock strikes offshore Atacama, Chile

An earthquake of magnitude 6.5 struck offshore Atacama, Chile, on Tuesday, a day after an even stronger quake in the area, the US Geological Survey said on Tuesday.

The quake, initially reported as magnitude 6.1, was at a shallow depth of 14.32 km (8.9 miles ), the USGS said.

It follows a magnitude 6.8 in the same area on Monday night.
