As per a report by the South China Morning Post, the incident took place on November 14 when the cab driver Yin picked up a masked passenger in his 20s.

The passenger booked a 1,100km ride to Weifang. As it was a long-distance drive, Yin picked up another driver, Xia, adhering to the company policy for long distance trips.

After they covered almost 300 km, the passenger urged them to hurry up.

Xia said that they have to follow the protocols and drive safely.

Later, the passenger whispered to them that he was in a hurry because he had killed someone. "I killed a person. I need to hurry back home to say goodbye to my family," the passenger said, as reported by the publication.

Upon hearing his confession, Xia believed it to be a joke, however, Yin was not satisfied and grew suspicious since the man was wearing a mask and was appearing tensed.

Soon after Yin received a call from the police officials from Jingmen, who informed him that the passenger in his car is a suspect in a murder case. The police began tracking the taxi and also asked Yin to cooperate.

Yin then pretended that he had received a normal call to ensure the passenger does not get suspicious. Signalling Xia, Yin said they have to stop at the charging station to charge the car.

While at the charging station, the police arrived and arrested the murder suspect.

As Yin and Xia helped the police in the case, they were given Rs 11,658 (1,000 yuan) as reward.

The incident was discussed on online platforms by the netizens and the publication mentioned some of the comments written by them.

Some netizens expressed how astonished they were after reading about it.

A user commented, "I thought it was a made-up story; I cannot believe it actually happened."

Another wrote, "I would have ditched my car if I were them."
