<p class="title">The Election Commission is acting like a puppet in the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah, former minister and Congress leader B K Chandrashekar said on Saturday.</p>.<p class="bodytext">“The Election Commission, which is an apolitical entity, has blatantly abdicated its responsibility by defending Modi and Shah,” Chandrashekar charged. “We need someone like T N Seshan (former chief election commissioner) to ensure free and fair elections.”</p>.<p class="bodytext">He pointed out that Modi and Shah had been let off while BSP chief Mayawati, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu got a rap from the Election Commission for violating the poll code. “The EC should’ve banned the PM from campaigning,” he said. “But it was a mute spectator even as Modi disgracefully and shamefully asked first-time voters to dedicate their votes for Pulwama martyrs,” he said.</p>
