Nagaland Election Constituency-wise Result Highlights: NDPP-BJP alliance wins 35 seats, Rio set to be Nagaland’s chief minister for a record fifth term

Nagaland political stalwart and NDPP supremo Neiphiu Rio is set to assume office as chief minister for a fifth term after registering a convincing win for his party and its ally, the BJP. Together, the two parties have secured 35seats in the 60-member Nagaland Assembly.

NDPP-BJP gets majority in Nagaland Assembly, wins 33 seats

The ruling NDPP-BJP alliance got majority in the 60-member Nagaland Assembly by winning 33 seats on Thursday, election commission said.

The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) won 21 seats while its alliance partner got 12 seats, the EC said.

The NDPP-BJP had fought the elections on 40:20 seat sharing arrangement.

NDPP-BJP alliance heading towards victory in Nagaland

The NDPP-BJP alliance is heading towards victory in Nagaland, as per the Election Commission of India (ECI) trends.

As per ECI, NDPP is leading in 24 seats with one victory and it's ally BJP is leading in 23 seats with two wins in the 60-member Assembly where election was conducted in 59 seats.

Congress is reduced to two seats and is way behind NCP which is leading in five seats. LJP(RV) headed by Chirag Paswan is leading on three seats.

Assembly polls were held on Monday in 59 of the 60 Assembly constituencies in Nagaland, where 85.90 per cent of 13.16 lakh had electors cast their ballots.

Hekhani Jakhlau creates history by becoming first woman to be elected to Nagaland Assembly

Hekhani Jakhalu created history on Thursday by becoming the first woman to be elected to the Nagaland Assembly, officials said.

Jakhalu, the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) candidate for the Dimapur III seat defeated her nearest rival Azheto Zhimomi of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) by 1,536 votes, the Election Commission of India, said.

Two of the four women candidates Hekhani Jakhalu and Salhoutuonuo Kruse of NDPP are also leading in Dimapur-III and Western Angami seats.

Independent candidates are leading in five seats and Nationalist Congress Party nominees was ahead in five constituencies.

The Republican Party of India (Athawale) candidates are leading in two seats while LJP (Ram Vilas) nominees leading in three seats.

Elections were held for 59 Assembly seats on February 27. The Akuluto seat has been won uncontested by BJP nominee Kazheto Kinimi.

Poll trends in Nagaland

The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) was ahead in 18 seats while its alliance partner the BJP was leading in seven seats, the EC said. The NDPP and BJP fought the election on a 40:20 seat sharing agreement.

NDPP supremo and Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio was leading by over 6,394 votes against his nearest Indian National Congress party rival Seyievilie Sachu, it said.

Deputy Chief Minister and BJP nominee Y Patton is leading by 110 votes in Tyui seat in Wokha.

ECI set for counting

Poll officials said that prohibitory orders under 144 Cr Pc have been promulgated in and around all the locations of the counting centers as a precautionary measure.Nagaland election officials said that the votes will be counted in 59 centers across the 16 district headquarters.Balloting was not held in one Assembly constituency in each of Meghalaya and Nagaland, which have 60 seats each in the state Assemblies.
