<p>Filmmaker Nishikant Kamat, one of the popular directors of Marathi and Bollywood cinema, who shot into national fame with Ajay Devgn-Tabu starrer Dirshyam, passed away on Monday.</p>.<p>He was 50.</p>.<p>Kamat, who was battling liver cirrhosis for the past two years, was admitted to the AIG Hospitals in Hyderabad on July 31. He passed away on Monday evening due to multiple-organ failure.</p>.<p>His debut film, Dombivali Fast earned him accolades in Marathi cinema, as it went on to become the biggest Marathi film of 2015. He remade his film, in Tamil with R. Madhavan in the lead as Evano Oruvan, which had opened to rave reviews.</p>.<p>He also acted in the Marathi film Saatchya Aat Gharat. His Bollywood debut project was based upon the 2006 Mumbai bombings, titled, Mumbai Meri Jaan, which was filmed in Hindi. After its success, he made Madari.</p>.<p>He also played a negative role in the movie Rocky Handsome.</p>.<p>The 2015 film Drishyam, which was a remake of the 2013 Malayalam-language film by the same name, brought him accolades.</p>.<p>The film was jointly produced by Kumar Mangat Pathak, Ajit Andhare and Abhishek Pathak. It starred Ajay Devgn, Tabu and Shriya Saran, and also featured Ishita Dutta and Mrunal Jadhav.</p>
