Amit Shah speaks to Gujarat CM; assures central help amid flood-like situation

Amit Shah said the Gujarat administration, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are engaged in providing quick help to the affected people.

"I spoke to Chief Minister @Bhupendrapbjp in view of the flood-like situation arising due to heavy rains in various areas of Gujarat and assured him all possible help from the Modi government. The Gujarat administration, SDRF and NDRF are engaged in providing quick help to the affected people," Shah tweeted in Hindi.

Heavy rains in parts of Maharashtra; 3 missing in Gadchiroli, moderate showers in Mumbai

Three persons were missing in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district after heavy rains and incessant downpour led to a rise in water levels of several rivers in Nashik district, while Mumbai and its adjoining areas received moderate showers on Monday.

Heavy rains continued to lash Nashik district, causing a rise in water levels of several rivers and submerging many temples located on the bed of the Godavari river, officials said.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 'red' alert for Nashik district till July 14, forecasting heavy to extremely heavy rains of over 20 cm in 24 hours.

68 killed as torrential rain batters Pakistan's Sindh and Balochistan provinces

At least 68 people have died in Pakistan's Karachi city in Sindh province and neighbouring Balochistan province as torrential rains and flash floods battered the area, officials said on Monday.

As many as 63 deaths were reported in Quetta, Barkhan, Pishin, Kohlu, Bolan, Lorelai and Zhob areas in Balochistan province, while five people died in Karachi, the capital of Sindh province, as relentless rainfall battered the city submerging several areas and leaving many without power on the second day of Eidul Azha.

Tea crop affected in north India due to rains: TAI

The tea producing belt of north India, comprising the regions of Assam and North Bengal, has been battered by the severe rainfall, according to Tea Association of India (TAI), an apex body of tea planters of the country.

A spokesman of TAI said that the north India region produces 81 per cent of the country's total tea production.

The crop declined 11 per cent in Assam in June 2022 at 76.87 million kg from 86.37 million kg in the same month of previous year. In Barak Valley, the crop decreased to 4.26 million kg in June 2022 as against 4.26 million kg in the previous year same month of 2021 at 5.08 million kg, showing a decline of 16.14 per cent, the TAI said.

Goa will set up a dedicated disaster response force and a memorandum of understanding has been signed with the National Disaster Response Force based in Maharashtra's Pune district for this, state revenue minister Atanasio Monserratte said in the Assembly on Monday. Three days after the devastating Amarnath Yatra tragedy in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the top official from the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) on Monday said there is no science to predict such highly localized events.

At least 17 people were killed, and several others suspected to be washed away at the holy cave shrine of Amarnath on Friday evening due to a flash flood as a result of heavy rainfall around the holy cave. The authorities had stopped the Yatra in the wake of the disaster and it was resumed only on Monday.

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday said he would visitrain-affected districts of Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada and Udupi and instruct the officials to take appropriate relief measures. He said he interacted with the Deputy Commissioners of the districts affected with regard to the rescue work that needs to be undertaken. "The Malnad region, Kodagu, Uttara Kannada and coastal regions are being lashed by heavyrainsfor the past 10 days. Already I have interacted with the Deputy Commissioners concerned through video conference for taking up rescue and relief works," the Chief Minister told reporters.

Light to moderate rains lashed Mumbai and its neighbouring areas on Monday morning, and there was no report of water-logging anywhere in the city, civic officials said. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted moderate rainfall in the city and its suburbs over the next 24 hours, with a possibility of heavy showers at isolated places, they said. The island city (south Mumbai) recorded an average rainfall of 12.04 mm in the 24 hour-period till 8 am on Monday, while the eastern and western suburbs received 22.12 mm and 12.76 mm downpour, respectively, an official said. There was no water-logging anywhere in the city, hence no public bus service was diverted, officials said. The local train services, considered as the lifeline of Mumbai, were also running normally on the Central Railway and Western Railway corridors, they said.

Amarnath Yatra resumes; 4,026 pilgrims leave Jammu for base camps

Amarnath Yatra resumed on Monday after remaining suspended for a day due to inclement weather as another batch of over 4,000 pilgrims left for the base camps of the 3,880-metre high cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas, officials said.

The Yatra was suspended from Jammu due to bad weather conditions and no batch was allowed to proceed to the base camps in the Valley on Sunday.
