<p class="title">The district-level exhibition-cum-sale of handloom products—Kaveri Vastrasiri—organised by the Department of Handlooms and Textiles and Zilla Panchayat, was inaugurated by ZP president B A Harish and vice president Lokeshwari Gopal. </p>.<p class="bodytext">The exhibition is being held at Gandhi Maidan in Madikeri.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Speaking on the occasion, the ZP president said that there is a need to strengthen cottage industries.</p>.<p class="bodytext">“Desi products should be promoted. The cottage industries help in the generation of employment,” he added. </p>.<p class="bodytext">There is a decline in demand for handloom products in the recent past. The weavers should be supported, he said. </p>.<p class="bodytext">Zilla Panchayat vice president Lokeshwari Gopal called upon the people to make use of the mela. </p>.<p class="bodytext">Handlooms and textiles department assistant director G S Guruswamy said that weavers societies from across the state have exhibited their products. Silk sarees, cotton sarees, Kanchipuram sarees, Molakamooru, Ilakal sarees, bedsheets and towels are exhibited. </p>
