First case of Kysanur Forest Disease in 2024 claims 18-year-old's life in Karnataka

Shivamogga: A 18-year old woman from Hosanagar taluk, who was tested positive for Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD) also known as Monkey Fever died of it in a hospital in Udupi district's Manipal on Monday.

The woman, resident of a village under the Aramanekoppa gram panchayat in Hosanagar taluk, was tested positive for the disease.

Later, she was admitted to McGann General teaching hospital in Shivamogga. She tested positive for KFD there. As her condition worsened, she was shifted to the hospital in Manipal where she died of multi-organ failure.

District Health Officer Rajesh Suragihalli told that the woman was suffering from anemia and she did not respond to the treatment.

In the last three months, three were tested positive for the disease. Of them, one died. This case was reported at Aramanekoppa region for the first time in 2014. Now, it has been reported again. A team of doctors has been sent there to educate people about preventive measures.
