<p class="title">Deputy Commissioner Charulata Somal handed over health and hygiene kits provided by Samarthanam Trust for the disabled and supported by Oracle, to 476 Asha workers who are working as the Covid-19 frontline workers in the district.</p>.<p class="bodytext">During a programme held at the DC’s office hall on Monday, the Charulata Somal appreciated the dedicated work by Asha workers during the pandemic.</p>.<p class="bodytext">She also suggested that Asha workers should also take care of their health.</p>.<p><strong>‘Be cautious against Covid-19 second wave’</strong></p>.<p class="bodytext">Charulata Somal told the people to be cautious against the second wave of Covid-19 which has affected Kodagu district as well.</p>.<p class="bodytext">From Sunday, there has been a rise in the number of Covid-19 cases, she noted.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The deputy commissioner called upon the people to take all possible precautionary measures, including wearing masks, using sanitisers and observing social distancing, without fail.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Samarthanam Trust convener Shivaraj said that the health and hygiene kits provided to the Asha workers include sanitary napkins, N-95 masks, sanitisers and hand gloves.</p>.<p class="bodytext">He further said that the trust has been working for the empowerment of the physically challenged and those who are denied opportunities.</p>.<p class="bodytext">An emphasis has been laid on quality education, housing, nutritious food, vocational training and rehabilitation, he added.</p>.<p class="bodytext">District RCH officer Dr Gopinath, Samarthanam Trust for the disabled representative Devaraju and Mysuru zone convener Shivaraj were present.</p>.<p><strong>16 fresh Covid-19 cases in Kodagu</strong></p>.<p>As many as 16 fresh cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Kodagu district on Monday. Out of the new cases, six cases are from Madikeri taluk and 10 are from Somwarpet taluk.</p>.<p>The total number of Covid-19 cases in the district so far has risen to 6,292. As many as 6,162 people have recovered. There are 48 active cases undergoing treatment in the district. The district has registered 82 Covid related deaths so far since last March. Currently, there are 37 containment zones, said the deputy commissioner.</p>
