Bengaluru-Mangaluru train services resume after landslide restoration

Hassan: The train service between Bengaluru and Mangaluru, which was cancelled due to a landslide on Sakleshpur-Subramanya route, resumed on Thursday.

The services of Gommateshwara Express, between Yeshwantpur and Mangaluru Junction, began on Thursday. Personnel from railway department took up the work despite heavy rains and constructed a crib wall as well as a barrier and completed the work.

The South Western Railway (SWR) had given permission to begin the railway service from August 4. A trial run was conducted to check safety. On August 6, a loaded goods train was allowed to ply on the route. Currently, the speed of the train has been limited to 15 kmph.

Shiradi ghat opens

The Shiradi Ghat road on Bengaluru-Mangaluru National Highway 75, which witnessed several landslides has been opened for movement of vehicles round-the-clock.

Deputy Commissioner C Sathyabhama had issued orders on July 16 restricting vehicular movement on the stretch following a landslide at Doddatappale in Sakleshpur taluk.

Later, Sakleshpur Assistant Commissioner M K Shruti had issued another order restricting the movement of vehicles from 6 pm to 6 am due to heavy vehicular density.

As the rains subsided in the region, the ban order has been withdrawn.
