<p>After a hiatus of three-years since the city was listed under the Centre’s ambitious Smart City project, Bengaluru will witness “Smart Roads” at 20 different locations.</p>.<p>Flagging of the work, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) issued work orders recently.</p>.<p>The 20 selected roads located within the central business district (CBD) will provide motorists and pedestrians with advanced scientific facilities including smart signalling, light-controlled crossing for pedestrians, digital information boards to, smart dustbins, smart parking systems, solar charging ports and many other facilities.</p>.<p>The civic body had floated tenders for the project worth Rs 230 crore during November 2018 and had finalised bidders in March 2019.</p>.<p>A senior engineer attached to the Smart City Project at BBMP said, “The work on these roads will begin in 15 days, soon after the board meeting of the Smart City Project cell which is scheduled to be held on May 21. The work will be completed in about 15 months.” </p>.<p>Currently, the BBMP is finalising the bidder to take up several other roads under the same project in Phase-2. “As many as 16 roads will be part of Phase-2 at a cost of about Rs 208 crore under six packages.
