<p class="rtejustify">Five people shopping in a three-storey fashion store were severely injured and three staffers escaped with minor injuries when a lift carrying them collapsed on Sunday evening. </p>.<p class="bodytext rtejustify">According to the police, the incident happened around 6.30 pm at Unlimited Fashion, a division of Aravind Limited, on Kammanahalli Main Road in Banaswadi.</p>.<p class="bodytext rtejustify">The shoppers had taken the elevator to the second floor when it came crashing down.</p>.<p class="bodytext rtejustify">Five customers were rescued by other shoppers and members of the staff. They were admitted to a private hospital for multiple injuries and fractures. </p>.<p class="bodytext rtejustify">The injured were identified as Umesh, Sheetal, Sachin, Chetan and Nagaraju.</p>.<p class="bodytext rtejustify">The reason for the accident is yet to be ascertained. </p>.<p class="bodytext rtejustify">The Banaswadi police have registered a case of negligence against the store manager, and are verifying the role of the maintenance company. A senior officer said neither the police nor the fire and emergency services personnel were alerted when the incident happened. But they rushed to the spot after learning about the accident, the officer added.</p>
