Nimhans' santhe focuses on suicide prevention services

Bengaluru: The National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (Nimhans) hosted the third edition of its Mental Health Santhe on Tuesday, focusing on the broad spectrum of mental health and suicide prevention services available, and underscoring the importance of cross-sector partnerships in driving positive change.

The event featured over 70 stalls showcasing the efforts of mental health organisations and suicide prevention initiatives, with a spotlight on innovative interventions and research.

The stalls represented various departments within Nimhans, alongside organisations such as Cadabams, Coexin, MPower, Abhasa, Allo Health, IDare, QPR Institute, Prasanna Counselling, Mibo, and Pukar Foundation.

A notable highlight was the release of Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials aimed at educating the public on mental health, reducing stigma, and fostering open dialogue on mental health and suicide prevention.

The event also included several plays by participants from various institutions, designed to break the stigma surrounding mental health and suicide prevention. Themes covered included the prioritisation of mental health and well-being, epilepsy, suicide prevention, empty nest syndrome, and schizophrenia.

Vishal Patel shared a personal recovery story, explaining the role of support systems in overcoming mental health challenges. The day also featured drama and poster competitions, addressing themes like well-being and suicide prevention, with prizes awarded to participants.
