<p class="title">Accusing the state government and district administration of failing to solve the sand crisis, district BJP unit staged a protest in front of DC’s office on Saturday.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The protest was staged by the BJP in all the Assembly constituencies in the district.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Addressing the protesters in Mangaluru on Saturday, MLA D Vedavyas Kamath said, “Non-availability of sand has inconvenienced the public. The labourers are jobless. The district administration is dilly-dallying over the issue of permits for sand extraction. The state government has failed to understand the woes of middle and lower-middle-class people. In spite of the chief minister promising to solve the sand crisis by October 15, no action had been initiated by the district administration, so far.”</p>.<p class="bodytext">He demanded permanent solution for the sand crisis in the district by announcing a sand policy to allow traditional sand extraction. Due to non-availability of sand, the sand is sold at high prices.</p>.<p class="bodytext">BJP district vice-president Ravishankar Mijar accused the government playing politics on the sand issue.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The agitating BJP workers sang Bhajans, and MLA Vedavyas Kamath accompanied them on Tabla.</p>
