<p class="bodytext">The Bearys Institute of Technology (BIT), Bearys Enviro-architecture Design School (BEADS), and BIT Polytechnic will organise a Carbon Neutral conference on the Bearys Knowledge Campus on April 26 and 27.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The conference will be on the topic ‘Sustainable Urban Development, Resource Conservation and Food Security (SURF – 19)'.</p>.<p class="bodytext">BIT Principal Dr P Mahabaleshwarappa, who addressed reporters on Monday, said that the conference will address the utilisation of technology as well as infrastructure that saves energy and adapts sustainable methods of living.</p>.<p class="bodytext">“The conference will include panel discussions, paper and poster presentations on four major tracks – food security, advances and recent trends in engineering and technology, sustainable urban development and resource conservation. Research papers from UK, Malaysia and the US have been received for the conference. A total of 150 research papers were submitted and 110 papers have been selected,” the principal informed.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The conference will be inaugurated by Dr Alok Kumar Srivastav, CFTRI, Mysuru, director.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Dr Ken Yeang, architect, ecologist and author from Malaysia, will deliver the keynote address on April 27.</p>.<p class="bodytext">BEADS Principal Ashok L P Mendonca said that, with the geometric progression of urbanisation, sensitising students about sustainable developments and resource conservation becomes critical.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Convener of SURF – 19 Dr Mustafa Basthikodi announced that Phase 2 of the conference will be held in January 2020.</p>
