<p class="title">Amid the fear of Kyasanur Forest Disease in Shivamogga, the carcasses of two monkeys, in a decomposed state, was found at Ujire and Kannaje in Belthangady taluk of Dakshina Kannada district on Friday.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Speaking to <span class="italic">DH</span>, Taluk Health Officer Dr Kalamadhu said that as the carcasses were found in a decomposed state, samples could not be collected from it to be sent for testing for the KFD.</p>.<p class="bodytext">A team of veterinary doctors and others have visited the spot. It looks like the monkeys might have died four days ago. As the carcasses were in a decomposed state, post mortem could not be conducted on it and were cremated.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Fumigation was taken up in the areas where the carcasses were found.</p>.<p class="bodytext">He said that the public need not panic. All the precautionary measures have been initiated in the taluk.</p>.<p class="bodytext">ASHA workers are creating awareness on the KFD in the rural areas.</p>.<p class="bodytext">He appealed to the public to inform the forest or health or animal husbandry departments if they come across carcass of monkey in the forest.</p>.<p class="bodytext">DHO Dr Ramakrishna Rao said the last case of the KFD was reported in Dakshina Kannada district in 2014-15 with the death of an individual at Beluvai.</p>
