<p class="title">Udupi Zilla Panchayat Chief Planning Officer (CPO) Srinivas Rao said the Solid, Liquid Resource Management (SLRM) project initiated in 26 gram panchayats across the district had solved the garbage problem to a greater extent.</p>.<p class="bodytext">“The first SLRM unit in Vandse in Kundapur taluk is making good profit,” he said. Due to scarcity of space, two or three gram panchayats have joined hands to have a common SLRM unit.</p>.<p class="bodytext">He said 1,200 tonnes of garbage was collected through SLRM units and the revenue generated from the proceeds of sale of waste was more than Rs 20 lakh. About 200 people were gainfully employed due to the SLRM project, he stressed.</p>.<p class="bodytext">“The local elected representatives can approach the zilla panchayat for any assistance required to open SLRM unit in their gram panchayat,” Rao said.</p>
