CM hands over houses to Diddalli evacuees

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy symbolically handed over newly constructed houses to Diddalli evacuees at Basavanahalli near Kushalnagar on Thursday.

On the occasion, he said 500 houses have been constructed as a result of the campaign launched by Diddalli evacuees.

Kumaraswamy said the project, taken up by the previous government, has been finally implemented.

‘No eviction’

He also urged forest dwelling tribals not to have any apprehensions. “They will not be evicted by the government. All necessary facilities will be provided to the eligible forest dwellers,” he stressed.

Kumaraswamy said the laying of roads will be completed before the onset of monsoon in the district. A decision will be taken on providing C and D lands to those who have lost their agriculture lands in the flood and also on providing a compensation of Rs 25,000 per hectare to the farmers who have lost the crop, he added.

The chief minister promised to release Rs 25 to Rs 50 lakh each to the newly announced taluks in the state.

Rs 5 lakh compensation

Kumaraswamy handed over a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the family members of Manjula who lost her life during the natural calamity in Kodagu. Her body has not been traced so far. The chief minister, while declaring the case as a special one, handed over the amount to Manjula’s family members.

Much to the glee of gathering, Kumaraswamy announced the formation of two new taluks, Kushalnagar and Ponnampet.

MLA K G Bopaiah urged the government to complete works on remaining 340 houses and desilting of Harangi reservoir.

“The government should appoint Tahsildars for the newly announced taluk centres. Town Municipal Council should be formed in Kushalnagar. Flash flood and landslide victims should be provided with adequate compensation,” he urged.
