<p class="bodytext">The cooperative sector should be free from politics. If politics enters into the cooperative sector, it will have a negative impact on its progress, said MLC M P Sunil Subramani.</p>.<p class="bodytext">He was speaking during a programme on ‘Skill Development through Cooperative Organisations’ as a part of the 65th All India Cooperative Week at Hotel Mayura Valley Auditorium in Madikeri on Tuesday.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The district has marked an achievement in the cooperative sector. The cooperative banks have been contributing towards the progress of farmers in the district, he added.</p>.<p class="bodytext">District Cooperative Union President A K Manu Muttappa said that the cooperative sector has been growing in the district.</p>.<p class="bodytext">He said that farmers have been involved in the cooperative sector since the days before independence. He called upon the youth to take part in the activities in the sector.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Cooperative union former president M P Muttappa opined that only selfless service and honesty can help in developing the cooperative sector.</p>.<p class="bodytext">District Central Cooperative Bank Director K P Ganapathy said that the cooperative organisations have a history of 114 years.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Kodagu district holds the first position in the state in cooperative activities, he said and requested the government to provide a uniform software for all cooperative organisations in the state. </p>.<p class="bodytext">Kodagu District Cooperative Bank Chairman B D Manjunath also spoke on the occasion.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Muddanda B Devaiah was conferred with ‘Sahakara Ratna’ award on the occasion. Karnanda M Somaiah, Boppera C Kaveriappa, M N Kumarappa and Usha Tejaswi were conferred ‘Shrestha Sahakari Prashasti’.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Zilla Panchayat Vice President Lokeshwari Gopal and District Cooperative Union Vice President P C Acchaiah were present among others at the programme.</p>
