<p>Deputy Commissioner P I Sreevidya directed officials to create awareness on the welfare programmes of the government for the welfare of transgenders. She said that there is a need to create awareness on the rights of transgenders as well. </p>.<p class="bodytext">Speaking at a meeting of Women and Child Development Department officials here on Monday, she said, “The government has introduced Chethana, Dhanasri, rehabilitation programmes for the welfare of transgenders.”</p>.<p class="bodytext">The officials should ensure that transgenders do not face any trouble while opening a bank account. Aadhaar card and Voters identity cards should be issued to them, she added.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Programme implementation officer Mamthaz said, “Chethana scheme aims to rehabilitate transgenders who are engaged in prostitution. Financial assistance of Rs 50,000 will be given by the State Women Development Corporation to take bring transgenders to the mainstream of society by engaging them in other income generating activities for livelihood.”</p>.<p class="bodytext">The DC directed the engineers to complete the work on anganwadi buildings that were affected by the natural calamities, within three months.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The women and child development officer said that the district has 820 anganwadi centres, of which 220 centres are functioning at there own building. As many as 30 anganwadi buildings have been fully damaged and 130 buildings have been partially damaged in the recent rain and flood. </p>.<p class="bodytext">Zilla Panchayat CEO K Lakshmi Priya, District Health Officer Dr Rajesh and others were present at the meeting.</p>
