<p class="bodytext">The three-day fruit and flower show organised by the Department of Horticulture, Dakshina Zilla Panchayat, district administration and Siri Horticulture Association will begin at Kadri Park on January 26.</p>.<p class="bodytext">H R Nayak, deputy director of the Department of Horticulture, told reporters on Wednesday that a large flower model of a ship floating in sea and a tea kettle bedecked with roses and carnesia flowers will be the attractions at the flower show.</p>.<p class="CrossHead">Entry fees</p>.<p class="bodytext">He said it has been decided to collect entry fee of Rs 20 for adults and Rs 10 for children. Schoolchildren in uniform and accompanied by teachers as well as the differently abled will be given free entrance.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The flower show will be inaugurated by District In-charge Minister U T Khader, while Council chairperson K Prathapchandra Shetty will inaugurate the models of flowers. Mangaluru City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath will preside over the formal programme.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Nayak said that exotic flower topiary garden, exhibition of variety of flower and vegetables, anthurium, rose, chrysanthemum, gerbera, hibiscus and other vegetable saplings will be added attraction. The show will also exhibit flowering plants, vegetable saplings cultivated by nurseries of the Horticulture Department in each taluk and will be sold to the public at concession rate.</p>.<p class="bodytext">“The show will also include exhibition by nursery owners, farm implements, seeds and fertilisers, organic products, horticultural products and value added projects. There will be a demonstration on drip irrigation, hydroponics (growing plants without soil by using mineral nutrient solutions in a water solvent), model of apiculture, mushroom cultivation and on cut flowers,” said the deputy director.</p>.<p class="CrossHead">Demonstrations</p>.<p class="bodytext">Officials of the Horticulture Department and experts will give demonstrations on growing fruits and vegetables on terrace gardens and in pots. Visitors will also get to see vegetables grown by the Department at their experimental garden adjacent to the main venue of the flower show, said Nayak.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Information on apriculture will be disseminated. Value added products from honey will also be sold on the occasion, he added.</p>
