Gang assaults 2 youth

Two youth, who were accompanying a woman belonging to a particular community, were assaulted by a group that took objection to their movement in Deralakatte on Saturday.

Sources in Ullal police station said the woman, hailing from Thrissur in Kerala, was pursuing her dental education in a college in Deralakatte.

Her friends Lenin and Vishnuparasad had come to Deralakatte and were accompanying her till Thrissur. The trio had also visited a hotel around 3 pm.

Rowdy sheeter Rukman and others, who had been stalking the three friends, issued threats to the woman. They later assaulted Lenin and Vishnuprasad and took away their mobile phones.

Based on a complaint filed by the woman, the Ullal police arrested Rukman. It is suspected that Abkar and Musafir, from rowdy Naseer’s gang, were also involved in assaulting the youth.

Based on the CCTV footage, the police launched a search for the accused. The victims after availing treatment at a hospital left for Thrissur, police sources said and added that the investigation was in progress.
