<p class="title">Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) celebrated International Women’s Day at Dr TMA Pai auditorium here on Friday. The theme of the celebration this year was #Balanceforbetter.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Prof Dr Indira Chakravarthy, Chief Advisor to Public Health Engineering Department, Government of West Bengal, shared her views on balance between water sanitation and hygiene (WASH) and improvement in health and nutrition. She also presented the results of various case studies done in different parts of the country.</p>.<p class="bodytext">During the inauguration, a short film made by the students of School of Communication under the guidance of Dr Shubha H S, Head Media Studies on the theme #Balanceforbetter was screened on the occasion. MAHE Pro Chancellor Dr H S Ballal and Syndicate Bank General Manager Bhaskar Hande also spoke. A video on the activities of Team WOMAN documented by the School of Communication was screened for the audience. Prizes to the winners of the photography, poetry and poster competitions were also given away.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Dr Virupaksha Devaramane, consultant psychiatrist of Dr A V Baliga Memorial Hospital, Udupi, spoke on how to deal with stress and anxiety, balancing work & home and the importance of communication and good parenting.</p>.<p class="bodytext">‘Stigmatization of the Woman Drug User: Perceptions, Challenges and the Way Forward’, a talk by Lakshmi Radhakrishnan, Deputy Commissioner Mangaluru Customs was also held. </p>.<p class="bodytext">The closing session focussed on the theme: ‘Why not balance physical fitness?” The session overview was provided by Dr Fiddy Davis, Associate Prof and Head, Dept of Exercise and Sports Sciences, SOAHS.</p>
