‘Police under stress all the time’

Police personnel protect the internal security of the country. They not only sacrifice their pleasures but sometimes even their lives for the sake of people, said Principal District and Sessions Judge Kadluru Satyanarayanacharya.

Speaking during Police Martyrs’ Day at police grounds in Mangaluru on Sunday, the judge said last year as many as 414 police personnel had lost their lives while on duty in the country.

“In many instances, police risk their lives and also get seriously injured while dealing with notorious criminals. Police are under stress all the time,” he added.

Tributes were paid to police martyrs on the occasion.

Senior civil judge and District Legal Services Authority Member Secretary Mallanagowda B Patil, Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil, Superintendent of Police Dr B R Ravikanthe Gowda, DCP Hanumantaraya and others were present.

In Udupi

The Police Martyrs’ Day was marked with solemnity and with the participation of police, retired police personnel and social workers in Udupi district.

Udupi District and Sessions Court Judge T Venkatesh Naik paid respect to martyred police personnel at the memorial.

Naik said, “We salute policemen for their work. We must consider them as the real heroes in the society.”

“Police are instrumental in ensuring peace in the society. It is not possible to imagine even a day without the police force as they help to maintain peace and harmony in the society,” he said.

Naik suggested that legal awareness training programme should be held frequently for the police personnel as it would ensure efficiency in every aspect of their life.

Udupi SP Laxman B Nimbargi said that Police Martyrs’ Day was held to honour brave fighters of the nation and to express solidarity with their families.

After a parade, a minute of silence was observed in respect of police personnel in the country who attained martyrdom while fighting to maintain law and order in the country.
