Row over abattoir: Khader writes to PM, UD minister

District In-charge Minister U T Khader on Tuesday countered the Sangh Parivar’s opposition to the upgrade of the abattoir in Mangaluru.

He has declared that he had written letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister of Urban Development Hardip Singh Puri, seeking suggestions on modernisation of the city’s only abattoir under the Smart City project.

“Based on their reply, we will take the proposal forward,” said Khader, who is also minister for urban development and housing.

He asserted that, as chairperson of the advisory committee of the Smart City Projects, he had submitted suggestions including modernisation of the abattoir in Kudroli. The old abattoir is in a deplorable state currently.

‘Saddened by allegations’

“Keeping in mind the hygienic condition, the slaughterhouse needs to be upgraded. The allegations made against the proposal by the elected representatives has left me saddened,” he stated and urged the leaders not to level baseless allegations and create confusion in the minds of the people.

Speaking about his correspondence with the prime minister, Khader said, “In the letter, I have mentioned how the upgrade proposal was within the guidelines of the Smart City projects. The demands of the elected representatives on earmarking funds under the Smart City project for setting up of gaushalas in the city was included in the letter.”

To a question regarding ignoring of the Mangaluru City Corporation Council while proposing upgrade of the abattoir, Khader insisted that he had followed the guidelines of the project. “There is no question of bypassing the Council. Even now, the proposal may be placed before the Council of the Corporation for discussion,” he stated.

Revenue Adalat

The minister said that to solve the row over RTCs and the 11E sketches of land, a district-level revenue adalat would be organised at the deputy commissioner’s office on November 12. “The adalat will be attended by the deputy commissioner, myself and all revenue officers. All revenue-related issues can be redressed in the adalat,” he assured.

The state government has clarified that the 11E sketch is not mandatory for registration of land in urban areas. The sketches refer to exact marking, identification and fixing of boundaries by licensed surveyors in the presence of both the buyer and the seller.

Khader further said that Urban Property Ownership Records (UPOR) will be mandatory. The problems related to conversion of land and other property-related issued have come to light due to mistakes in the RTC instead of 11E sketches.

“A committee has been constituted at the taluk-level under the chairmanship of the assistant commissioner and comprising the tahsildar and surveyors. The committee will redress the grievances related to the 11E sketches. All issues pertaining to the sketches in each taluk should be declared within 45 days,” said the minister.

CM Janata Darshan

Khader also said that he had appealed to Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy to hold a Janata Darshan in Mangaluru.

“The chief minister has responded positively and will hold a Janata Darshan in the city,” he added.
