<p class="title">Residents of Udupi town have to wait for another three to four days to get water supply from Baje reservoir.</p>.<p class="title">Though the CMC officials had said that dredging had begun from Sunday morning itself, the actual dredging work started from Monday evening.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Additional Deputy Commissioner Vidya Kumari told <span class="italic">DH</span> that the work had been taken up to accumulate water from the surrounding small ponds into a single huge pond, so that it would help to lift water using the pump.</p>.<p class="bodytext">In order to lift the water at Baje reservoir, the water should be stored to the level of 1.7 metres. Currently, the water-level is 1.2 metres. Hence, there is a need to increase the level of water by taking up dredging work. The work on removing the silt will be taken up from Monday evening, she added.</p>.<p class="bodytext">‘’In the last two days, the work was taken up to store water in a huge pond by diverting water from small ponds situated amid boulders in the dam.”</p>.<p class="bodytext">She said the city municipal council was hopeful of resuming the water supply in two to three days.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Meanwhile MLA Raghupathi Bhat said the dredging work should have been taken up long ago.</p>.<p class="bodytext">“The district administration has behaved irresponsibly,” he alleged.</p>
