Phone tapping case against dissident left-front MLA P V Anvar in Kerala

A case was registered against independent MLA P V Anvar, who raised serious charges against certain IPS officers and the CMO in Kerala,  for allegedly illegally tapping phone calls of senior officials of the state

The move came close on the heels of Anvar severing his ties with the ruling CPI(M) after raising a series of allegations against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Anvar also said that the Sangh Parivar forces were aiming to win 25 seats in Kerala by 2026 and gaining power by 2031.  

Anvar himself had earlier stated that he got telephone conversations of many prominent persons including ministers to support his allegations. But no police action was taken so far. But now a case was registered after a Kottayam native, Thomas Peeliyanikkal, filed a police petition citing this.

The petitioner alleged that by illegally tapping phone calls and making  it public Anvar tried to trigger riot. Based on that the police registered a case by invoking section 192 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan had earlier sought a report from the government on Anvar's claims that he tapped phones.

During his two hour long public address, Anvar said that even as he informed Vijayan about the illegal acts of  ADGP M R Ajithkumar and CM's political secretary P Sasi, no action was taken against them.

Anvar, who is a former Congress worker hailing from a traditional Congress family, strongly rejected CPM's criticism that he was a communal person.

He plans to hold public meetings across the state to clarify his political stand and would take a decision on forming a new party only after hearing people's opinion.
