Will scrap Dharavi redevelopment project tender, won't let Mumbai turn into 'Adani city': Uddhav Thackeray

Thackeray said his party will ensure Dharavi residents and businesses are not uprooted, adding that people staying there must be given 500 square feet houses in the locality itself.

Mumbai: Ahead of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections, Shiv Sena (UBT) head and former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray raked up the Dharavi redevelopment project issue yet again alleging that the Eknath Shinde-led Maha Yuti is providing benefits that are not part of the tender agreement.

Thackeray threatened to scrap the Dharavi Redevelopment Project Pvt Ltd (DRPPL), a joint venture between the Government of Maharashtra and the Adani Group, once his government comes to power in the state.

“We will not allow Mumbai to be turned into Adani city,” Thackeray told a news conference on Saturday.

It may be recalled, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Maha Vikas Aghadi opposition alliance (I.N.D.I.A) had mounted a major campaign against the Dharavi redevelopment project and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, now the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, even addressed a meeting in Dharavi.

“Is it Dharavi redevelopment or Ladka Mitra Yojna (favourite friend scheme)? We will not give any fresh concessions. We will see what is good for residents of Dharavi and if need arises we will issue a fresh tender,” said Thackeray in a vehement attack on Shinde and BJP leadership.
