<p>Uttar Pradesh IPS officer Amitabh Thakur, who was known for taking the governments head on by his arguments, was given voluntary retirement (VRS) from service in ''public interest''.</p>.<p>According to the official sources, the ministry of Home Affairs, in its order, which was issued last week, decided to give VRS to Thakur after finding him 'unsuitable' to keep him in service in ''public interest''.</p>.<p>''I have just received the order of my VRS in public interest...the government does not need my services...Jai Hind,'' Thakur said in a message on his Twitter handle on Tuesday.</p>.<p>Thakur, who was a native of Bihar, had often been in the news for taking the governments, whether headed by the Samajwadi Party (SP) or the BJP, head on over different issues.</p>.<p>The firebrand IPS officer, who was usually given insignificant postings, had irked the BJP government, when he had predicted that gangster Vikas Dubey, who had killed eight cops and was nabbed in Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh last year, would be killed in an encounter even before it happened.</p>.<p>Similarly, he had again embarrassed the bureaucracy and the government after he demanded action against the district magistrate of Hathras following brutal rape and murder of a woman there.</p>.<p>Thakur had also released a list of 'wasooli' (extortion) by the cops at Mughal Sarai kotwali sending the authorities in a tizzy.</p>.<p>In 2015, Thakur had taped his alleged conversation with the SP patron Mulayam Singh Yadav in which the latter was heard threatening him over his criticism of the then SP government.</p>.<p>After he leaked the tape, he was accused of raping a woman. He had then put up a board before his office stating that no woman should enter his office alone.</p>
